“On Mission” for Christ: “Flipping the Presbytery” the social way

Come, see the new look of our Mission Summit blog and start reading the Mission@Los Ranchos news magazine via the Flipboard app on your smart phones and tablets. First, I describe some of the changes and then, “Flipping the Presbytery ” gets a new meaning!

Revised versions of the PLR Mission Resources Brochure and the Preparing for Short Term Missions: A PLR Resource Guide are now availableYou will find the revised documents under the PLR Mission Resources tab of the top navigation bar. Several other mission-related documents prepared by Tom Cramer are also available here. Additionally, churches in our presbytery have been listed on the right sidebar. If your church isn’t listed here and you have a website, please leave a reply with the web address. I also hope you will play around with the rest of the blog and provide feedback.

The most exciting new sidebar link, IMHO, is to the Flipboard Magazine Mission@PLR. Flipboard, in case you haven’t heard of it, is a personal news reader. It allows you, me, any reader to bring together news from all the different places on the web. Snippets, sound bites, music, videos, tweets and status updates from newspapers, magazines, websites, and social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google+, can all be brought together into one place, in a visually stunning and pleasing way. Flipboard, however, goes beyond simple news curation. It also allows readers to share the news magazines they create/curate, thereby, changing the way in which information is consumed and used.  I choose what I want to read, “flip” them to create customized new magazines, and share them with others. I can also grow my audience and group, and expand my reach. Lots of big businesses (CNN, for example) are using Flipboard to make their own custom magazines around special interests. And, I too have put together for the fun and profit of the Kingdom a magazine called Mission@Los Ranchos around our common passion, mission in our presbytery. Right now, Mission@Los Ranchos curates news from our Mission Summit blog and from the Los Ranchos website/YouTube channels. It may harness other information channels/sources (e.g. websites of all the churches in our presbytery) as time goes on.

So, what are next steps? You probably already have Flipboard since its long been a favorite Ipad news reader. But if you don’t, to read the magazine just click on the link and download the app to your favorite Android, Iphone, Blackberry, Ipad, computer. If you already have Flipboard on your cell/tablet/computer, Search and Subscribe to Mission@LosRanchos magazine. Read and enjoy! Btw, you can also respond and interact on all your social networks from within Flipboard.

Want to join in this techy Kingdom adventure? If you enjoy your electronic toys and want to become a wise user of social media, come, join us. We’ll hold hands and learn to flip together “on mission” for Christ. To our awesome, living God be the Glory.

Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 9: 23-24 (ESV)
